I'm doing an export that it taking too long. It completes but it takes too long. What is happening? Apart from adding DIRECT=Y in my export script how do I make my export much faster.

By adding DIRECT=Y, you will not use the buffer so your export will run much faster and you import will run faster as well.

    no harm by using DIRECT=Y

It also depends on the size of the database, the speed of the box it is on, disk contention, and the high tide in Singapore.
