I want to access a SQLServer database via ODBC.

Metalink suggests using Merant or Intersolve ODBC drivers and says that the ODBC agent is already on the Oracle Server.

Has anyone done this and can you offer recommendations on setup and which ODBC driver is best.

This example of generic connectivity should sort you out. The example is for 9i to Access but it is fine for 8i to SQL Server also. I've used the standard SQL Server driver with no problems:

I've not used it but I would have thought the transparent gateway for SQL Server was better??

Whichever driver works is the best driver. You can quote that one if you like... :-)

If you need one-time access, MS Access is a good tool.

I recommend the Transparent Gateway for MS SQL if you want some permanent access to a defined SQL Server database.

Setting it up is a bit of a bugger, but once it's up and running, it's quite amazing.

    Thanks for the responses.

We are interested in OTG. We use it for DB2.

Do you have any ideas about the cost?
