    Angry

    Good morning!

I try to recover a oracle8i database which has a corrupted redo log file(current).

The steps I have done are:
    1) shutdown abort
    2) startup mount
    3) recover database until cancel

step 3) stops with error messages ora-00279 and ora-00280

After this step I can not stop this procedure and I have to start with step 1)

Has any body an idea? Please help!

    Hi,
In my opinion You have to restore the whole database from last backup and then recover DB until last archived log.

    O, oh,

the database is in NOARCHIVE LOG MODE and the last backup is to old.

Is it possible to start the database without crash recovery?

Your recover procedure is asking for a archived log file which i guess u dont have.In this case make a note of the archive log file its asking and check ur archive destination wether u have this file.If this file is not there, then at the point of applying this archive log file say 'Cancel'.Then ur recovery will stop. Then issue 'alter database open command;'
This will open ur database and performing incomplete recovery.
