    Hello all

What should one install on the client machines so that developer can install his application and connect to the server

    - we have the following configuration
    - Server dual processor 750 Mhz , 1 gb ram
    - Windows Nt , S6
    - Oracle 8.1.6 coming with the oracle application 11i
    - right now for the financial we are not installing anything
to cinnect cause just we declare the ip address of our server
on the host file (DNS) and once we use the explorer we can
    interface with the application

now we are going to install hr software using oracle database
and they asked me to install the required files in the client machines sicne the are using client/server application.

    Regards
    regards

    putting hands on it...

Basically you neet SQL*Net at client machine to connect to database.
The other things depends on how do you want to connect, It can be SQL*Plus, Developer, Designer or ODBC...

    thanks sanjay

But does that mean i have to install the net8
or we can copy the tnsnames.ora,sqlnet.ora in the client machine

Hint:there is an application will be installed in each client
machine to connect the oracle database

    regards

looking for more people to put hands also

Well you do need to install the net 8 , copying the tnsnames.ora will help as well.(it's one and the same thing)
but just do the client installation with minimum input, configuring your odbc/jdbc eventually or like sanjay said thru sql*plus utility.
