Could anyone tell me if there is a way to drop a column from a view ?
SQL>alter view VIEW_NAME drop column COLUMN_NAME;
---- will not work.
**Or, better yet, I would like to move all the data from a view into a table so then I can modify the table with no problems.
PLEASE HELP.
Im using Oracle8i on Linux Red Hat

Why do you want to Alter a view?
Just recreate it.

I can drop the column by recreating the view, but I also need
to copy the data from one column to another.
How do I do this ?

Hi,
A view does not actually store the data like a table would. A view is simply a reference to particular columns in a table or tables.
So there is no need to copy data from one column to another, simply drop the current view and re-create it exactly the way you want manipulating the select statement within the create view.
