Hi,
I have just passed my oracle 9i certification. Which certification shall I do next ? Shall I do Solaris adminstration or JAVA certification ? I have 4 years exp in Solaris and just started JAVA. I don't want to do Oracle Masters as I think that it is a way of Oracle to make money of ILT training.
What do the oracle gurus and managers in this forum think ?
What are the merits of doing Solaris adminstration certification ? And what are the merits of doing JAVA certification ?
Thanks
Jason

What are your career objectives and interests?
I've heard the Solaris certificate and in particular, the first exam of the certificate are not too difficult for DBAs with lots of DBA experience on Solaris.
The Java Developer and Programmer certifications cover things like the AWT that nobody uses so much anymore, and doesn't focus on J2EE which seems to be the most requested buzzword. There are however, very few Java certified Architects around and in my market, they command a very high salary accompanied by interesting work.
Be warned! I am not a "guru".
Good luck.

My sincerest advice. Relax and after that take Oracle Exam
DEVELOP PL/SQL Program units the 2nd exam on developer track. You will definitely need strong PL/SQL as now a days it is common for DBA's to do backend programming and then go for SCSA 8. They are piece of cheese cake.
All the best

Hi,
I have strong PL/SQL skills. Moving into PL/SQL programming and Developer 2000 would be a career step back for me. I moved to Oracle DBA from PL/SQL Programming/Forms/Reports only.
Thanks

FOR JASON
I'm not telling you to go back to PL/SQL development my advice is only add that certification. As you claim that you are very strong in PL/SQL programming so it should not be very hard for you just $125.
On the other hand go for SCSA 8 certifications track.
Good Luck

Jason, did you upgrade to 9i OCP or did you make the 9i OCP from scratch?
-
I'd go Solaris Certification.
