If TNS_ADMIN does not exist in the environment, what is the order in which Oracle looks for TNSNAMES.ora file?
I have 3 versions (7.3.4, 8.1.6, 8.1.7)of Oracle on SunSolaris8 server. If I set ORACLE_HOME and PATH env. variables to 8.1.7 version and not set TNS_ADMIN, what is the order in which Oracle looks for TNSNAMES.ora file?
Any ideas???

in my experiance Oracle try to find tnsnames.ora in order:
- current directory
- PATH directories
- $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin.

Well...in my case, it not looking in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin.
If I use TNS_ADMIN, then it is using the file from $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin. Is this due to multiple versions of Oracle under different Oracle homes?
I am setting the appropriate ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID
and it should pick up the right tnsnames.ora file even though TNS_ADMIN is not set???
