When I am trying to start the database I am getting ora-1102:cannot mount database in exclusive mode and
I see the following in alert log, what do they mean:
ORA-09341: scumnt: unable to mount database
OSD-04400: unable to acquire internal semaphore for process
O/S-Error: (OS 183) Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

How do I resolve this??? PLEEEEEEEEEEEase help!

this looks like the SGA memory hasn't got released from the Memory.
do one of the following...
reboot the OS or
if in Windows - kill the Services for that SID
if in Unix - I donot remember the command but it has to be used carefuly.( reboot is advised ).

How do I kill the services??
I restarted the services several times did not help.
I am not so familiar with windows, please help

Oracle 8.1.7.2

to go shortcut
if u have other instances please shut them down
and you will see oracle.exe process running in taskmanager...just kill them...
and restart the DBs again, either using the Service window or thru SVRMGRL utility.
