    Question

    Hi, I run Rman online backup on Unix and would like to keep my alert log size manageable. During a close backup, I am able to rename my alert log and get a new one created when the instance is started. However, with online backup, I am unable to rename the alert log. Can someone show me how to accomplish this? Thanks.

    Since you didn't post your version or platform, I am assuming Solaris and 8.1.7.2.

    mv alert.log alert.log.$$; touch alert.log
