process failure

dear friends

when iam working with the database suddenly it hangs stating an error as
follows.

number of process exceeded the limit.
when i referred to the alert file i got the following messages.

error 20 detected in background process
OPIRIP: Uncaught error 447. Error stack:
ORA-00447: fatal error in background process
ORA-00020: maximum number of processes (59) exceeded


*** SESSION ID:(1.1) 2001-01-19 18:04:35.026
ORA-00444: background process "EMN0" failed while starting
ORA-00020: maximum number of processes () exceeded

in the init parameter file i ve given the number of processes as 59.

what could be the problem. how i can solve it. can any one help me out.

increase the processes parameter in your init.ora file, and bounce your instance
