    Hi,

    You just need to re-create the control file. Also change the value of db_files in init.ora to match with the value in the control file.

    I dunno if you have read my previous post but from 8i you dont have to alter control file, just change db_files in init.ora, why you dont try startup pfile ??? Since it seems like you were using the wrong init.ora

    So , I need not recreate the controlfile even if my filenos r going above MAXDATAFILES value ?

    IS IT ?

    I think your problem is not with the init.ora parameter DB_FILES. What do you get from the following:

    Code:
    select RECORDS_TOTAL from V$CONTROLFILE_RECORD_SECTION where TYPE = 'DATAFILE';
    Do you get 30? If not, how many?
