Hi all,
Will it create any problem if Oracle Client software ver. is different (lower) than Oracle server/ database version?
Example: Client is installed from Oracle 7.3.4 CD and database on server is 8.0.5.
Will it give any problem?
TIA,
Oracle Client / Server software

Sorry about the miss-interpretation. You can connect from a lower client version to the higher server versions. But not vice-versa.
hacketta thank you for correcting the mistake.

I don't know if this is OK officially, but we spent over a year with users connecting to 8.0.5.0.0 with 7.3.2.2.0 clients.

Hi Sam,
On my PC, client is 8i and our server ver. is 8.0.5. I don't see any problems though.
Thanks,
Sam

We have a mixture of 7.3.4, 8.1.5, 8.1.7 and 9.0.1 clients and servers with no problems.

The only problem I've seen is using an 8.0.5 client with 8.1.7, the "program" column does not get populated in v$session.
