Can Oracle8i support incremental backup when Rman run at nocatalog mode?

folks,

someone told me that oracle8i cannot incrementally backup when using control file as depository of backup info. But by my practice I incrementally backuped the database sucessfully. So I'm confused if the control file support incremetal backup?

Any advices will be appreciated.
