I am trying to install 8.17 in windows 2000, its taking too long for Net8 configuration assistant tool to get installed !!! Anybody experienced this, It has taken more than 12hrs, i think this should not be the case, please advise.

That is way to long. Should be only 15 to 20 mins max. Stop the task and restart the install. I've had the install stop several times, but never have had it run so long.

A fragmented disk, and a slow hardware could easily slowdown things...

Java implemented installer have some quirks sometimes, particualry when run on MS platform. I belive yoe've hit the following trap (I've fallen into it once, however I haven'twaited for 12 hours ): Net configuration assistant has started but it requires some information or confirmation for you. Therefore it raises another pop-up window on the scree and waits for you to confirm/naswer it. However sometimes that pop-up windows don't come in the foreground, they remain hidden behind their "parent" window. The installer waits for you to react about that window, but as you are not seeing it you wait for installer to do something.... Infinite loop...
Try to minimize your front window or all of your windows, click around on your opened application a bit, in short try to bring that hidden widow in front.
