    Hi.

I know alot of you think OCP is a con. I don't happen to agree but each to their own. What really bugs me is the new Oracle Certified Master (OCM) program!

    http://www.oracle.com/education/certification

What a complete money making scam! You are forced to go on 2 training courses at OU then sit a LAB. Why can't you just sit the LAB?

Why must I sit through 2 weeks of lectures about something I do every day?

Why should I spend £3000 + accomodation + travel + 2 weeks loss of pay + LAB exam costs to get a piece of paper that says I can do an online table redefinition or some other crap like that?

Assuming I did want to go on a course, what if I wanted to use another training company?

This is obviously a scam to extort money from losers like myself who don't like to go on courses, but can't live without the latest certification

    Angry comments welcome!

    Tim....

I agree. Oracle unleashed the OCP program hoping to bolster their education revenue stream. Once they figured out that just about anybody (ocpwannabe for example) can pass the exams without going to training, they had to figure out a new way to get you to spend your training budget with them. The OCM program is the result.

Before the OCP program, Oracle had a program called Oracle Masters. Basically, you sat for 5 or 6 classes and you then were a "Master". No testing. No studying. You could fall asleep in the class and still be called a master.

I'm a believer in the OCP program as well. I don't think it is the be-all end-all job finding tool, but I do believe that it indicates something about a person that they are willing to supplement their job education on their own time.

I have only one course left for my Oracle HA Master degree, i.e,
    Oracle Enterprise DBA.

In the beginning I thought the same as you. OCP is enough, OM
is nonsence, money scam. However, I have changed my mind.

During the Oracle Master courses I have learned a lot of new things
about OPS and HA systems. It is a lot for money for an ordinary
person, not really for our companies.

And you should be OCP to qualify for OM, so if you have come to
a point in your career where you have certified you Oracle knowledge,
I believe an Oracle Master is something additional, a plus at least.

oh yes ocpwannabe can be a oracle master... just by sitting 5 classes
it's ridiculous get certification just by attending the classes, just marketing skills, the only good thing about oracle lectures are just the ILT materials, the trainers are so so, even I can read out the text in the book and powerpoint and give classes

I was just looking at the NEW Oracle Master Certification.
Your right take two more classes after the OCP Certification and sit for a hands-on practice-based examination in an Oracle lab environment.

You got to be kidding ! ! ! 2 more Oracle classes is about $5,000 US. That is not including the time away from work, travel and expenses.

Who ever is running the program should allow for a work experience wavier of the two classes and allow an OCP DBAs with real world experience to sit for the hands-on practice-based examination

    I already e-mailed: masters_us@oracle.com
to ask what is the "hands-on practice-based examination".
    masters_us@oracle.com replied with

The Oracle Certified Master Program will not be released until Spring of 2002. Please check back at that time for more information regarding the Oracle Certified Master program.
    Thank you,
    Masters Program

I think you will be even a better teacher than most of the Oracle educators :-)
