    Question

    OS: Sun 64 bits
    Oracle version: 8.1.6
    Problem description:
    When I ran the ./runInstaller, it gave me this error:

    "Initializing Java Virtual Machine from ...../jre/1.1.8/bin/jre. Please wait...
    Error in CreateOUIProcess(): 14
    : Bad address"

    I checked out the Metalink and did not find any topic relating to error 14. Have
    anyone seen this error before?

    Do you have your DISPLAY set properly? Is xhost enabled for your DISPLAY?

    What do you mean by "can run on CDROM but not in Unix"?

    If I undestand correctly you couldn't execut the binary under your oracle installation, but could invoke it from cdrom. If you can invoke it from your cdrom, that is fine, invoke the OUI and choose the deinstallation of OUI from the installed directory and then reinstall it.

    O.K to proceed with further suggestions, I need certain things clarified.

    Is this your production server?

    Could be a case that the inventory might have been corrupted. What are the other oracle installs you have under this server?
