Thread: 1G initial extent ?

    What are the dis-advantages of having a very large initial extent (lets say 1G or 500M) on a:

    1) Table
    2) Index, if any ???

    If I already know that that space will be utilized, will it be a good idea.

    I already know that all the space will be used up...in that case is there any dis-advantage ?

    If there is a full table scan search then there will be some gain .That to not significant .If this records are going to be accessed very frequently there you will have i/o contention ...

    But I have used 512MB is some of my fact tables ....
