    Hi all!

    Query:

This is a case study # 11:Recovery Through Resetlogs
    from Rama Velpuri's Backup & Recovery(Oracle Press) v8i.

If I restore from cold Backup(point A) the db files to the original D:\ drive:

    1.Control01.Ctl
    2.Users01.dbf
    4.Test01.dbf

After this, opening the Db with resetlogs option makes on-line Redo log files 1,I take a cold backup(point B).

    Now my question is:

When I restore from the cold backup(point A) to the D:\ Drive, what should I do with the existing DB files currently residing in the D:\ drive.

If I restore from point A cold Backup to the d:\ drive,it would overwrite all the data files in the present d:\ drive.

    Please forward your suggestions.

    Thanks&Regards,

    Amit.

IF you are doing a restore from the cold backup, the restore will over write to those files. On cases like this, you will have to be carefull, the media on to which you are restoring is not corrupted. The purpose of doing the reset logs was to take the database to the new reincarnation point. Remember to issue reset database at RMAN to do a full resync for the corresponding catalog
