Hi Friends.
Let's say my $ORACLE_HOME is
/u01/oracle/product/ux61
and I renamed directory ux61 to ux62
so home is /u01/oracle/product/ux62
would this affect anything Oracle ?
I will change my environment variables so that they point to new oracle_home.
Is there anything else i need to consider ?
Thanks
Suresh

I seem to remember the last time I did this (8.0.6) that I had to relink the oracle software. I think one of the client apps didn't work properly. In 8i, the command is relink all.

Yes, you need to relink Oracle executables. You also need to change a file that specifies absolute path names and file names for some libraries.
But after that, it works smooth.

Come to think about it, I never was able to get it to fully work. I just re-installed the software in the new $OH and had two copies of the same software at once. When I switched $OH, I just removed the old $OH.

Changing the Oracle Home Directory
It depends on the version of Oracle. Under 8i, there are many config files where the path for Oracle Home is hard coded, so if you move the directory you need to find all the config files and edit them. It's easier to just uninstall and reinstall the software. Under 8.0 it was much easier to move the Oracle executables.
