    Question

    Hello
when i did a ps -ef |grep i noticed that several instances
doc, epip, qacd instances were up and running on the hp box.
when i do lsnrctl status i notice there are services for those instances but when i look at listener.ora there are no entries for it. any ideas>??? my listener.ora is in /etc/listener.ora

8i instances register with the listener automatically. There are several init.ora parameters involved...

hmm...that's interesting for a listener.ora location. To my knowledge listener.ora resides in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin. So it may be possible that you are looking at the wrong file.

You mean listener.ora doesn't have SID_LIST_LISTENER defined? Hmmm, that is quiet wierd!! Did you do any migration or so?

Though it is said that instances do register automatically to the listener, you first need the listeners started! Do a search and make sure that they are there?

    When you do

    lsnrctl status

on header you can notice it to point to the parameter file path to the listener.ora file. Check it out...
