I know absolutely nothing about networks so here goes the question. I have a desktop and a laptop both running Oracle server 8.1.6 and both Win2000 Professional and I would like to network these machines so as to have an Oracle/Win2000 client-server. Do I need network cards and what type of cabling would be necessary.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Rex

what you're trying to do is not a client-server setup, it's server-server setup in lunch box.:-)

create a statuc IP Address and the easiest way to get those two machine to connect to each other is to use CROSS OVER cable. once you get those two machines connect and install Oracle server and client and you should be ok
