    Hi all!

We have Oracle v8i with NT as OS.

1.Does increasing SHARED_POOL_SIZE increases Library buffer cache as well as Data Dictionary cache!

What impact does it have on the DB.

If not, then what is the other alternative.Considering my cache buffer size is full having 24x7 db environment!

    2.Does increasing INIT.ORA Parameter DB_BLOCK_LRU_EXTENDED_STATISTICS
    increases library buffer cache.

    Thanks&Regards,

    Amitst.

    1. Yes ..it does.
    2. Will do you no harm if you have enough memory to spare. But the question you need to ask is - do you really need to ?
    3. extended_statistics is used to justify whether an increase in the db buffers will be beneficial or not. I am doubtful if it increases the db buffers but it certainly does not increase the library cache. Remember the 3 main components of SGA :-

    Buffer Cache
    Shared pool (library/dictionary cache info)
    Redo logs

    Redo Buffers, not Redo logs.
