    Yes, it's better.
All files (include files from TEMP tbs) have timestamps in controlfile.

If no, restore procedure may be more difficult for you.

Till 8.0.x , u should, unless u want to drop the tablespace
during recovery and recreate after recovery and open.

From 8.1.x , if the temp tablespace is local managed and not dictionary managed, then u do not need to .

What is the correct syntax to backup the temp tablespace?
I have a locally managed temp tablespace. I tried to do
    a hot backup but I receive ORA-03217

    alter tablespace TEMP begin backup
    *
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-03217: invalid option for alter of TEMPORARY TABLESPACE

You don't need to backup temporary tablespaces in 8i that are created with a tempfile clause. Check dba_temp_files for details.
