I am using DHCP, and using Oracle 8.0.5. when i am tryind to connect
from Client i get the error host not found, since i cannot give IP address in the
tnsnames.ora file i mentioned Server name, but if i change the server to static IP then I am
able to connect. but i prefer using DHCP . what is the solution.

    Thanx in advance

use DHCP, put the name in tnsnames.ora, and use a DNS server for address resolution ... that way no problem ...

the only way for you to know which IP address belongs to a machine is to query the DNS server which attributed the IP address using DHCP. if you use this server for your names search, you'll have no problem, but if you do not want to use that server, then there is no way to know which IP has been assigned ...

note that the work (checking the name resolution policy) is to be done on a OS level, nothing has to be changed for Oracle
