    which oracle document should i take a look in order to
    know the meaning of all latches?

    i checked oracle 8i references, it only have all the information about wait and statistics information.

    Not sure on the Oracle Documents, but O'Reilly has a book Oracle8i Internal Services for waits, latches, locks and memory.

    I think the documentation does not include LATCH description because there is little control a DBA can have on LATCHES except 3 or 4 latches

    You can find some latch description in John Moore's book

    There is a book by Steve Adams called "Oracle 8i Internal Services". Try to get it.
