Thread: steps for Installing a second version of oracle

    hi,
    please could anyone help me with the steps requrired for installing a second version of oracle onto the same machine i.e so that I can run both 8.0.5 and oracle 8i on the enterprise edition.
    - does the /etc/system setting need to be increased?

    You can run different version of Oracle on the same machine. Choose a different Home directory.

    You need to increase /etc/system parameters.

    Also remember that the combined SGA size of both Instances should be less than avilable physical memory.

    Another thing is that you cannot create two instances of same name, although they are going to be under different versions...

    Use the listener from the highest version of the database.
