analyzing a table

dear friends
while analyzing a table for computing/estimating statistics,(for cost based
optimization) what are the factors that are to be considered from the
dba_tables where the details are stored. how can we use these details
for further review.

Cost based optimizer will automatically use statistics generated by analyse command for generating execution plans.
You can find out the extent of chaining in your tables (fron chain_cnt column). There would be other uses as well, which others can highlight.
