OS: Solaris 8
DB: 817
I am looking for a way to get the cheapest maximum storage for my DB (i.e. compression, hardware,OS, Oracle, etc...) and performance can be sub-optimal. Size starts at about 100GB and goes to about 2TB+. Any ideas will be greatly apperciated.
We looked at archiving to DVD last year. The software/hardware cost was so expensive that it was cheaper to get a SCSI array, a bunch of 36G drives and RAID 5 them together. Plus, with disks, the access time is much better.
However, if you need to take your archives offsite, this would not be a good solution.
My window for admin time is narrow at about an hour or two a night, if I am lucky. The purse strings are getting a little loser this year and maybe we can upgrade our system to meet our future data needs.
Tamilselvan, is that tape system connect to the database or would I need to move the files back off tape to use them in the DB?
Marist89, we use Sun equipment and was wondering if you know of any cheap, reliable and works with Sun, hardware RAID 5 equipment?
