    Unhappy

I am sure that my Dell Dimension has a clean install of Windows 2000, because I re-installed it from the restoe disks. The problem persists. I installed Oracle Designer 6i student edition. When I try to run Net8Easy Config the followinjg happens.

A message flashes momentarily, then its window closes:
    The message is:
JRE.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program.

    What is this error?
    Who owns the problem?
    How do I fix it?

JRE.exe is probably java runtime environment.exe. It probably refers to the installation applet.

What is Designer 6i Student Edition? Where did you get it from?

    Thanks for the response, Dave

I might be wrong about the "Student Edition" name. The CD was distributed in class to my neighbor who is taking a class on Database Design Concepts at the community college level.

The teacher has no problems with the installation, but a couple of other studentds do. This is an on-line class, so communication issues exist.

I have just downloaded "des6iRel4.zip" from Oracle, so I will also test that version, and am considering installing it on my NT4.0 laptop and lending the lady that machine.

Why do we have a Java Installation Applet to deal with, and can I bypass it by editing the "net8config.ora" (or whatever it is called) file with a text editor?

Read the installation instructions first and follow it.
Sounds like you don't have required Operating System patch.

The download was around 250 MB, so it may take a while.

I run on Windows NT and had no problems with the install.
