I found myself in an interesting delima today. My server crashed and I lost all databases, including my recovery catalogs. I have tape backups but am not sure how to get RMAN to work with a specific backup set. Is this a situation where I need to work with Oracle Worldwide Support?

One thing that you should do in the future is to move your catalog to a server that does not contain data for the database you will may need to recover. This is highly recommended.

If you know the db_key of your last incarnation..you can retrieve the information from the tapes.
Just install the rman catalogue, recreate your db and register it. Then change the incarnation to the old one and restore your backups. I think this should work.
Pls do correct me if i'm wrong.

    Cheers,
