Oracle 8i instn. on Red Hat Linux

I am facing some problem in installing Oracle 8.1.6 on Redhat
Linux 7.1. I have done all the memory setting and folder setting mentioned in the prerequisite for installation, in the installation manual. But when I try to run,

./runinstaller

The screen gives,

Initializing java virtual machine from
./stage/components/oracleswd.jre/1.1.8/2/datafiles/expanded/linux/bin/jre

please wait.............................

This keeps going and if I press any other key immediately the installation procedure comes out.

Any ideas what could be wrong?
