system variable in stored procedure

Hi everyone,

I need to know if it is possible to set a unix system variable in a stored procedure.
could someone give me an example.

I'm using Oracle 8.1.7 on hp-ux platform.

It´s not possible directly, but you can execute an unix shell-script from your PL/SQL to do the job. To find know to call external programs (shell scripts, OS commands, whatever) search the old messages in this forum, and you find many solutions in 8i , using Java or external procedures.
