Actually there is a lot I don't know ; especially about Oracle. That is why I am devoting so much time to the learning process including multiple information sources and topics not specifically listed on the exam. When I get the opportunity at my first position I want to be prepared and comfortable. To each his own my friend ; good luck to you.

So back tot he original question ; anyone have any favorites in terms of books etc concerning running Oracle 8i on Soalris?

By far, IMHO, the definitive Oracle on Unix book out there is http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...688360-3787227 . If you don't know the difference between shared memory and semephores, this book is not for you.

Also, Don Burleson's book http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...688360-3787227 has a lot of intermediate information about running Oracle on Unix.
