instance sync up option
Hi all,
In Oracle, and I am on 9i what option can we use to sync up the two database for disaster purpose (somehting like standby). I know RAC is one of the option but is there anything else available???
In MSSQL, we can backup the DB, move it to another server and ship the logs to keep them in Sync????
any thoughts?

err a standby database? thats what you want
RAC is not an option as there is only one database
-
for standby DB, can Oracle automatically push the archive log and sync up the DB in let's say 15 min interval????
thanks
-
what do you mean?
You can apply a lag of 15 minsutes if thats what you want?, i.e the standby will wait 15 mins before applying the log.
otherwise it applies the redo as soon as it gets it

ok, please correct me if I am wrong. throughout the research I have done, here what I understand.
prior to 9i (in 8i), Oracle called STANDBY. In 9i , Oracle called DATA GUARD so they are both the same. is this correct???
and also, does STANDBY or DATA GUARD available to Standard edition????
thanks
-
no not available to standard edition (althought it can be manually done)
is its basic terms, standby = dataguard but dataguard gives you a while lot more options
-
thanks Davey,
can you please shed some light when you say "althought it can be manually done" , can you give a method so I can do some testing?
