    hi all,

i'm trying to set up oracle 8i r3 (8.1.7) on suse linux 7.1.

i have been following the oracle installation guide. once done with the pre-installation steps i tried to run runInstaller from the cdrom.
    it terminates with the following:

Initializing Java Virtual Machine from ../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/DataFiles/Expanded/linux/bin/jre. Please wait...

SIGSEGV received at bfffd9f8 in /cdrom/stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/D

here follows a buch of other - i guess debug - information, which i don't find very useful regarding that i have no clue what the oracle install modules are attempting, however i gladly send it to one that has an idea (just didn't want to mess up the forum with a 200k msg )

    all advices welcome!
    many thanks!

    Wink unset LANG

    fyi,

unsetting LANG parameter solved the exception error. Now let's see if it installs...
