These are just remarks, but I hope they help.

My shop runs Oracle 8.1.6 on a Sun Cluster 2.2. The cluster software is complex and nobody is an expert. It is difficult and expensive to find specialists (even for consulting), and the documentation for Sun Cluster is not enough to work independently of Sun.

I would examine your motivation for using a cluster. Another option we have considered is Standby.

If you want to use Oracle Management Server from Win2k or NT and connect to your cluster, you will find that Win2k cannot work with a virtual IP address. Therefore you must use OMS.

I know nothing about Microsoft clusters, but hopefully this info can give you some ideas.

    Good luck.

    Hello dknight

Thank u for your reply, one thing i want know is your term standby means u are refering to the individual node. From your note then i have to prepare for lot of hurdles while configuring the clusters. Iam collecting the information on clusters only thing what i want to know is is there any other product apart to MS clusters.

Just now i got some information on cluster as Compaq itself they are providing OSD i.e known as PDC(parallel database cluster) which will support for OPS.

If any one still have more information on this topic, their remarks are higly appreciated.

My shop uses Sun Cluster 2.2. We use Solaris 2.6.

One can run clusters on IBM AIX, but I don't have any contacts that do. A friend of mine, who worked at IBM told me that clustering on AIX is complicated.

You need to be careful when planning to upgrade software. For example, we use Veritas (don't know the version) for storage management, Solaris 2.6, and Oracle 8.1.6. We cannot upgrade to Solaris 8 because some of the products would not be compatible.

You might have the same experience with MS Clusters if you are running Storage Management software.

Sun Cluster software is not cheap. I do not know the price.

    Good luck.
