is it true in driect path loading - oracle by passes the buffer cache (in a HINT or in sql loader), and it directly writes to the datafiles. what if the insert or load consumes 3 extents let's say the extent size 3MB, what happens to that 3MB that has been allocated to the datafiles, does oracle reclaims that space or oracle will just leave that space. what happens to the records stored in the datafiles.
tnx for the support.

I dont understand what do you mean, in direct load Oracle srtarts to write after segment´s HWM so it is not reclaims those space before HWM

ah, so oracle writes the after the high water mark! does oracle creates only one extent it does not create in next extents defined in a table or tablespace.
what happens when the statement fails???

Well with Insert if it fails the transaction is rollback, I am not sure about SQL Loader because I rarely use it
