    Dear Moderators/Members

In configuring the unix kernel for Oracle server install, Oracle recommends the following setting for shm-max:

    shm-max = 2139095040 (2GB-8GB)

Can someone please explain to me how they arrive at the number 2139095040??

    Thanks a lot.

It should be 2147483647 which equals to
    (2*1024*1024*1024) -1 = 2147483648 - 1.

The subtraction of 1 is needed because memory starts from 0.
