I would be surprised if they do that. Oracle 8 is still very up to date, many people who use it do not plan to upgate for quite some time. In fact, a DBA told me recently that they have just installed 7.3. I asked why, he said that it is enough for them, they simply do not need more.

There is nothing on the Oracle web site. What kind of source is 'street'?

I haven't heard that, but suspect it will be discontinued right around that time. The 8.0.6 database is scheduled for de-support on 9/30/2001. They usually give 6 months to catchup for people that have already started.

Whats the difference people, if your 8 certified your 8 certify, Oracle is not like Microsoft, with Oracle once your certified you don't lose it. If you happen to miss an release and don't upgrade and have to start from scratch thats your fault not Oracle's, they give you plenty of time to upgrade.
i.e Your 7 certified missed the 8 upgrade and it gets retired and you have to start the 8i track from scratch.
Don't be afraid to try something new. Amateurs built the Ark, professionals built the Titanic
