When importing data into a new database, should the database be mounted and open, or should I only have the instance running???

The database has to be open. I like to open the database, but stop the listener. This way, I know that no users are using the database, but the database is still operating "normal".

OPEN. How would you be able to create objects and/or insert data into the database if it is not open?

Marist and Juric, thanks a lot. Especially, thanks to both of you - Marist for the listener shutdown tip, and Juric for pointing out the fact that objects are being created in the new DB which automatically means it has to be open. Big thanks!!!
