Hi all,
I got error as follows,
Errors in file F:\Orant\rdbms80\trace\berpPMON.TRC:
ORA-00376: file 39 cannot be read at this time
ORA-01110: data file 39: 'H:\ORCLBERP\ROLLBACK\RBS3BERP.ORA'
I did shutdown immediate (it took about 15 mins) and I issued shutdown abort to bring database down. Then I startup mount and do datafile recovery, bring datafile online.
now my database is up and running.
My question is, same error happened last weekend (last Sat.) and today, it happened again. (same file) Could it be hardware problem or Oracle problem? How can I prevent this happen again?
Oralce8.0.5.2.1/NT4.0 -SP6
Thank you,

Maybe NT networking problem
The file appeasrs to be in a mapped drive.

Hi Amar,
They are all local drivers. Dell-San box. I looked from event viewer, it says "the driver detected a controller error on device\harddisk6\partition1."
In that case, would it be hardware not properly config.
Also, how can I prevent this happen again?

Please talk to your NT Administrator She/he would be the best person to give an answer to that.

Hi
check the contents of the alert log file for more info on the problems.thats the first place you should normally check for in case of problems.you can also post the contents of the log file here.maybe one of us can help you analyze.

Hi elintrend
did you notice something in your log file.see what it says here
Automatic datafile offline due to write error on
file 39: H:\ORCLBERP\ROLLBACK\RBS3BERP.ORA
oracle has taken your data-file offline as the oracle process was not able to write to this file due to some reason.now we have to investigate further i think for some reason (it is my guess though) oracle dbwr or lgwr was not able to write.now check the tarce files this will be in the loaction where you have set the init parameter back_ground_dump_test.there you can find more info and take remedial action.

Hi hrishy,
You are right, in the alert log file, it did say dbwr and lgwr can't write to my datafile 39, then Oracle took this file offline.
I did check the trace file, but how can I get info from trace file? There are different trc files: ORA123321.trc, SMON.TRC and CORE.log. Which one can provide me some info for remedial action?
Thank you

Check your hardware, sounds like it maybe your disk controller.
Let us know what you find.
Best of luck

is the server configured in cluster? we have had similar problems with Compaq Clustered NT machines, when it switched from one node to another the RBS always corrupts
