After putting new memory in server we began receiving this error msg. Since nothing has changed in the listener.ora file we believe this could be related to the memory that has been placed in the server and the configuration of how this is used.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to what we may be able to check to resolve this?

    Thanks!

ORA-12500 TNS:listener failed to start a dedicated server process

Cause: The process of starting up a dedicated server process failed. The executable could not be found or the environment may be set up incorrectly.

Action: Turn on tracing at the ADMIN level and re-execute the operation. Verify that the Oracle Server executable is present and has execute permissions enabled. Ensure that the Oracle environment is specified correctly in LISTENER.ORA. The Oracle Protocol Adapter that is being called may not be installed on the local hard drive. Check that the correct Protocol Adapter are successfully linked. If the error persists, contact Oracle Customer Support.

Thanks for the info, however, that is info that we have here and we have checked those items already and it all checks out. As I stated, we believe this to be related to the memory that was added to the server and how that was configured. Unfortunately, we don't seem to know what needs to be changed or anywhere to start with the troubleshooting of this process.

    Thanks!

Can the amount of memory allocated to the Oracle processes affect the listener making the necessary connection to the db?

Database is up. We've verified that and verified that all Oracle related services are running.

Would it be possible to remove the memory (additional) and see if the problem goes away - just to make sure that the additional RAM is causing the error?

    IS this unix or nt?
I just had this error on Hpux and its usually your kernel parms..nproc etc..the error you are reciving means oracle might not be able to get dedicated processes. If this is Unix then ps -e f| grep oracle| wc -l and see how many Oracle owned processes are there.
let me know what you think about this...
