We have a 64-bit HP UX server here and a 32-bit Oracle 8.1.7
If anyone has any real experience, I would like to know the advantages of buying a 64-bit Oracle 8.1.7 license for this HP server.
1. What were the performance improvements from 32-bit to 64-bit Oracle ?
2. Any new features supported by Oracle for 64-bit only like Large files support etc. I have seen a lot of debate of Oracle datafiles to be less than 2Gb or 4GB for Unix systems. (I have been running 32-bit Oracle on Windows NT with 5GB datafiles without any problem)
Thanks,

64 bit Oracle is always patched last. I know of circumstances where people were running 64 bit Oracle and migrated to 32 bit to get a patch for a serious problem that wasn't patched in 64 bit for nearly 6 months after the 32bit patch arrived.
Unless you're really struggling with performance, stick with 32 bit Oracle for now.

Thanks kmesser but I am interested in the *pros* of 64-bit Oracle if any...Things that their marketing staff boasts are in 64-bit and not in 32-bit.
