    Hi,

If I use Oracle8i Standard Edition, can I have 1+ instances (which are differentiated by SID) for my database? Is this features only available in Enterprise Edition? And is this what so called Parallel server?

    Thanks a lot in advance.

I would imagine you could have more than one SID using Standard, but I have never used Standard before.

No, parallel server is a piece of software that allows multiple instances to operate on the same database. Typically, you would setup OPS on two different nodes that shared the same disk storage. Then, either node could handle database requests. If one node goes down, the other one picks up the work.
