This looks silly..but need help

My queries:

(1) What settings you do before installing Orcale in the unix server?

(2)Anyone can explain how can I get my server's config details?

which flavour of unix are you using?? there is something called as the pre-installation tasks that needs to be performed.

like checking your unix kernel parameters and recompiling your kernel if necessary.creating a user called oracle and creating groups called dba and setting oracle environment variables these are clearly explained in the guide lines of the install doc.

if you want to find out more baout your system use sam under hp-unix,smit under aix and sysinfo on linux..........

oracle 8i requires atleast 128 M ram for install.........on unix
