Thread: Loss of Datafile - URGENT

    We've lost one of our datafiles while performing an open database backup. The backup was being performed through a Veritas Backup software.

    The error message says that the file needs Media Recovery! We don't have a valid backup that we can use... but we do have some of the archived logs.

    The database is in Archivelog mode and the OS is NT4 running on RAID5.

    Can anyone help with this.. its really URGENT.

    what happened to your previous backups? Are you certain you can't recover that datafile with some earlier version?

    What happened that made you lose that datafile? Is is GONE, or did the DB/OS crash during the backup. If that's all, it's easy to fix.

    Please give more detail about exactly what you have as far as prior backups and archived logs, as well as what happened and where the data file is now.

    thanks, but we managed to recover the file using 'recover' command.
