Does anyone know what the tools tablespace is used for?
Does it cause any problems using this as the default tablespace for new users?
-
Hi,
As far as I know TOOLS tablespace is used for the objects related to Oracle tools like SQL*Plus etc.
You have to be careful while using it as the default tablespace. It should have enough space to accomodate both your objects as well as Oracle's objects.

well it's not used for anything, it's just a user tablespace created by Oracle, you can drop it or do whatever you want with it, it has no importance ...
check anyway that no user has this tablespace as default tablespace

Yes,
What Amit has said is correct ?
Tools tablespace is used for certain inbuild oracle tools and i suggest rather than dropping it, keep it as smaller in size for tools operation. Don't make it default for any user.

UP,
Do you know what oracle tools use the tools tablespace?
-
Hi all,
The TOOLS tablespace does have an important use.
When you create you DB it is used as the default tablespace for SYS and SYSTEM prior to running Catalog + Catproc scripts.
This ensures that all new objects for these users are placed in the Tools tablespace.
All monitoring and stats reporting will then not impact the SYSTEM tablespace - i.e fragment it.
It is therefore useful from a performance tuning perspective.
Best regards
