Dear Members
Can we create an Oracle8i (8.1.7) database in unix via line mode? If so:
1) would you please kindly detail the creation steps for me?
2) would you also detail how I can configure the system to start my database automatically when I boot the system?
Your help is always highly appreciated as usual.

The only way you can install via the command line is with 8i silent mode. In silent mode, you will have to feed the installer a configuration file.
The best way to start your databases on system boot is to have one of your /etc/init.d files call dbstart.

Coming to answer to your question 2, check the oracle installation manual chapter 4 and it explains the steps you have to take to have your instances shutdown and started up during system shutdown and boot.

Thanks for the prompt response, but I am looking for step by step instructions for CREATING AN 8i (8.1.7) DATABASE in linemode in unix.
Additionall, how do I alter the /etc/init.d file to automatically start my database on booting up my unix box. Thanks in advance.
