    Hi guys
    Could you tell me, how can I test my backup? I mean how
    to check the validity of Backup? My database is running in
    nonarchive log mode. I am taking Cold backup daily.

    Hi Rekha,

    Try to restore ur datafiles from ur cold backup will also test your recover skills.

    You also have a dbverify utility which you can execute from command prompt to check the validity of the backup data file.The file name differs from version to version so find out the file for your Oracle version

    The best way to verify your backup is to do a rebuild exercise on a test/development box. It will make sure that you can rely on your backup and will also boost your confidence in case of a real recovery need.

    If you use Rman, there is a command called
    'validate backupset backupset number ' it will show you whether you will be able to restore your database based on the set you have. Anyway, it is better to do an actual restore to make a peace of mind plus you practice your recovering skills.
