You're database is in an inconsistent state. You will have to recover.

Restore from Backup and start recovering from that point applying Archive redo.

    Hi,
The error states that ur controlfile appl1.ora is not consistent with controlfile apple2.ora.
The solution to the problem is remove the name of the bad controlfile from the CONTROL_FILES init.ora paramter and then try to restart the database.
Once the database is opened u can shutdown the database and make another copy of controlfile and enter the name in CONTROL_FILES init.ora file and restrt the database.

    Hi, 27th May 2001 20:15 hrs chennai

The Oracle error number you have mentioned is incorrect.

Oracle Document says like this on your error

    ORA-00214 control file '?' version ? inconsistent with file '?' version ?

Cause: Versions of control files and datafiles/logfiles mismatch

Action: Use a consistent set of control files, datafiles, and redo log files. That is, all the files must be for the same database and from the same time period

try as suggested by rohit if you still have problem
please get back to the forum

I would also like to know at what time of your work you got this error say trying to restore from backup after crash etc...

    cheers
